I would like to let you know how deeply ashamed I am of the actions of the Labour Party in Moston, and Manchester as a whole. The handling of the planning application for the construction of a 5,000 capacity football stadium on a green space in the heart of a residential area has been nothing short of scandalous. The way I feel about the people that I voted for and expected to represent my wishes on such issues can be seen below.
I strongly believe that there has been an intolerable abuse of power in this matter where the wishes of local residents have been ridden over roughshod to further the aims and ideals of a few people who do not belong to the community that they are about to blight. I am at a loss to understand a planning system that allows one of the major participants in a venture to be the sole arbiter of the final planning decision.
A number of local residents stated from the outset that it was a waste of time fighting this proposal but I chose to believe that the voice of the people would be heard. How sadly misguided was I?
Those of you who have backed this proposal should be ashamed of yourselves.
I agree, – The Council and FC United are playing on the idea that the stadium will be for “the community” but in practice it will serve only a very small section of the population – mainly from outside the area – and make life really difficult for the majority. It’s not surprising that both the ward councillors who support the proposals live well away from the site!
